ok so the day started at 4:15 am East Coast time. it is now 7:27 west coast time. I did some napping on the plane, but this is the longest day i've had in quite a while.
I arrived smoothly and safely in Sacramento, WITH my luggage. (that is always a bonus when the luggage shows up in the same city i am travelling to).
So far I have recieved my ever so flattering uniform which I will begin to wear tomorrow. YAY for a year where wearing a tshirt is mandatory. I filled out some paper work and got a tour of the campus. and a little tour of the surrounding area. LOTS of mexican food. love it. I got my room assignment and room key and building keys. Team Leaders have their own room for a month before corps members come, so that is really nice and i will appreciate that as long as it lasts. We just had a little welcome session then dinner and now free time, which I think I will be using to sleep at an embarassingly early hour.
There are a lot of people from NJ here. There are 36 fo us so far between team leaders and support team leaders and 5 or 6 of us are from nj. There are even more from the northeast, at least 10 out of the 36. There are a lot of people who have done NCCC before, and even more who have done other AmeriCorps before.
No Physical Training til late this week or early next week, can't decide if that is good or bad. Am fearing that the most, kinda wanted to get to see what its all about.
We have a full week of trainings scheduled, and I think those will help me be more comfortable here. but for now, some more pluses include:
a $250 Debit card assigned to me upon arrival (suprise, i never heard of that)
a first floor room (after moving out of my apartment i was really getting sick of carrying heavy things up and down flights of stairs)
finding my way to the computer lab and being able to log on with no password!
palm trees out my dorm window
That's all for now.
