Well we are back from Camp Mendocino. Back to sleeping inside, temperature control and lights in our rooms.
We arrived at Camp Mendocino early Wednesday afternoon and settled in for most of the day. That evening at the campfire we were told that 16 of the team leaders were being deployed to American Samoa to respond to the tsunami that just hit there. The 16 people were chosen based on their previous experience with the program and thus they had all the certification that was needed to be a first responder to a disaster. They left at 5 am the next morning to get on a plane to Honolulu and then a military plane to American Samoa. They are scheduled to be there for 3 weeks. That leaves 21 of us to get the campus ready for the corps members coming in just over a week. So i think its safe to say we will not be bored in the next week.
I left for Camp Mendocino with a scratchy throat and while there it turned into a real cold with fever, aches and pains. So I didn't get to do a whole lot besides sleep, but I did get to work one day. We were staining a house and we got to wear our ridiculous cover-all thingys.
Although I didn't get to do a whole lot while I was there (including taking pictures!) we will be going back with the corps members in just about a month, so i'll look forward to experiencing it at that point. That's all for now. back to training.
