We have arrived in st. bernard parish. There are 3 teams working together: blue 3, 5 and 7. Us and blue 7 are living in 2 apartments in a duplex and blue 5 is staying with us for a few days until their housing is vacated. The apartments are nice, with 3 bedrooms, bunk beds and 2 bathrooms.
Just to refresh your memory we are working with st. Bernard project, who rebuilds homes in st. Bernard parish, just outside New Orleans. First, teams go in to do mold remediation. Once the mold is gone specialty role people come in to do electrical and plumbing work. Then another team comes in to do insulation, drywall and mudding. Then specialty role people come in to do finishing touches. Corps members from all three teams will be supervising volunteers who will be doing mold remediation, insulation, drywall and mudding. We also have a few corps members helping out the specialty role people, working in the office and helping to organize the warehouse and supplies. The three team leaders will be runners, picking up supplies at home depot and delivering them to each site. We have only done one full day of work, but if today was any indication we will not be bored.
Meanwhile two other blue teams have arrived nearby and maybe we will get to see them later. I predict chaos…
