3.4.10

I always mean to post on Mondays and here it is Thursday. Anyways, last week was a pretty good one for Blue 3. Half of the team went to help out with Habitat in Castle Dale. They were working on a house that’s been under construction for quite a while. Once the house gets finished up hopefully Habitat will be able to build here in Green River.

Most of the girls on the team came down with a cold this week. I’m on the end of my cold, but some of the girls are still recovering. And we might have a case of pink eye. Lovely. But we did make it through half the round without having to go to the medical clinic. I think that’s commendable.

This past Saturday the team did a scavenger hunt in town. It was a good opportunity for us to explore and talk to the people who live here to get information. General silliness ensued as usual.
In addition, one team member and I went with the two interns to a benefit dinner in Moab. We went to the thrift store in Moab and got a whole outfit for $1. Wes and I proved ourselves fat kids by eating 2 helpings of prime rib. I cannot say no to free food. It’s a weakness.

On Sunday a woman from town invited us over for dinner. Her house felt so big and open and spacious compared to our little apartment. Its always funny to be in a real house again when in americorps because we live all cramped in small spaces together. We enjoyed a nice dinner and then stared at their giant fish tank for way longer than normal people would have. We also caught the beginning of the Olympics closing ceremony: another treat because we don’t have a TV.

On Monday of this week our unit leader Meg came to visit us. We visited the corps members at the work sites and met with the director of the community center. She stayed with us for the night and the interns and a VISTA came over for game night. Meg kicked everyone’s butt in banana grams. The evening ended with a very loud game of catchphrase. Successful visit.

This week the people working on the Baxter building at digging some holes and screen printing some t-shirts. The people on the after school program are planning activities to keep the little monsters busy. On Monday of next week the corps members will switch projects so that each will get a chance to do both construction and education. That means we are officially half way through this project.

In unrelated news my mom and brother are coming in one week from today!
